Guardian Pet Insurance helps cover the cost of your pet’s care, with up to 80% of eligible vet bills covered^, and no excess. We have three great value plans to choose from, and once your pet is insured, you can continue to cover them for life+. So, you can keep them happy and healthy, now and in the future.

Our levels of cover

Guardian Pet Insurance offers three levels of cover for your cat or dog, so you can choose what’s right for you and your pet.

Illness

This coverage pays out a benefit in the event your pet contracts an illness. Examples of illnesses that may be covered under illness cover include:

  • Cancer treatments
  • Skin conditions
  • Eye/ear conditions
  • Ingestion of a foreign object
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Hereditary and congenital conditions
  • Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)
  • Tick paralysis

Essential euthanasia

A time may come when it’s kinder to say goodbye to your dog or cat, rather than continue to watch them suffer. If essential euthanasia is required as a result of a condition covered under your policy and you need to make this difficult decision, your plan covers the cost up to the benefit percentage#

Our routine care cover

Available with our Platinum Accident & Illness Cover, routine health cover gives you a single annual extra benefit towards costs for routine vet care. Here’s what’s included:

$50 annual benefit for one of the following: PLUS $15 annual benefit for each of the following:
  • De-sexing
  • Microchipping
  • Heartworm preventative medication
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Council registration fees
  • Alternative therapies for pets
  • Prescription diets
  • Dewclaw removal
  • Cremation or burial
  • Behavioural therapy (by a qualified animal behaviourist or vet)
  • Dental illness treatment
  • Obedience training (at a recognised training facility)
  • Flea, tick or worm control
  • Vaccinations or health checks
  • Heartworm tests or blood screening
  • FeLV/FIV tests or urinalysis

Our exclusions

Guardian Pet Insurance offer cover for a range of benefits including accidents and illnesses however like any insurance – we can’t cover everything. Here are some things we won’t pay a benefit for:

  • A malicious act, deliberate injury or gross negligence by you, or someone living with you
  • Your failure to take all reasonable precautions to care for your pet, including not following your vet’s recommendations
  • Breeding or obstetrics
  • Dental problems or oral disease
  • Grooming or bathing your pet
  • Ambulance fees and non-essential hospitalisation
  • Behavioural problems or conditions caused by behavioural problems
  • Training, socialisation, therapy and alternative therapies#
  • Pet food, vitamins or dietary supplements, even when prescribed by a vet
  • Preventative/routine items such as routine health checks, flea/tick/worm control and vaccinations#
  • Elective treatments, including desexing#
  • Medication that is not approved by the APVMA unless agreed by us in writing
  • Organ transplant surgery, artificial limbs or prosthetics
  • Genetic/chromosome testing or cell replacement therapies
